Here is a massively awesome blog post by one of the most successful fitness trainers in the country: http://www.kickbacklife.com/2012/02/15/bluerprint/

He helps other fitness trainer get more clients, but there’s no reason that his strategies couldn’t translate over to YOUR business. Really, there’s very little difference between marketing Chiropractors, Dentists, Lawyers or .. for that matter, fitness trainers.

Now, he’s not exactly going to do it for you (that’s what we’re for), but here’s what he says about Google and SEO (search engine optimization):

“Google – To this day Google is still my primary source of getting training clients in my local training business… I guesstimate that Google alone has made me over a million dollars worth of personal training clients in my local area coming primarily from Google organic and Google Places

Click here for some awesome information about how to best use Google places/local

Getting clients from Google Organic is the way I’ve always gotten most of my clients; however, getting your website to the top of Google and keeping it up there typically isn’t the most fun type of work for a fitness professional… it’s definitely not something you should be spending your time doing and you can hire someone to do it for you for about 5 to 10 percent per hour as much as YOU’RE worth

I definitely recommend outsourcing your web and SEO work, unless sitting around building websites all day is your idea of fun… I’m sure you’d rather be kicking your clients asses or getting in a workout yourself, plus its a proven fact that this type of work can cause your typical boot camp instructor to go postal”

There are specialists in this world for a reason.

You do what you do. We do what we do. We’re both VERY good at it.

If you are not getting precisely the results you deserve, then you owe it to yourself to discover…

Just the other day, I had a conversation with a new marketer about framing the message of your business, or as I called it “market to message match.”

He wasn’t really sure what I meant about that, so here’s was how I explained it to him:

NEWBIE: I am not sure what you mean by that, Palyn…

PALYN: “Market to Message Match” — Making sure that your target market receives the appropriate message from you .. in order to get your intended result. It might help if you flip the words around and think of it as “message to market match”

The phrase “market to message match” could be used on the micro-scale to describe a single email you are sending .. such as making sure that the offer you are making is of interest to your recipients.

The phrase “market to message match” can even be taken more broadly, even philosophically ..and describe every action you take when working on a project from the top down .. In this case, your “message” includes EVERYTHING: the perception you want them to have, the context it is delivered in, the vibes you want them to feel, the positioning you choose in the marketplace. In this broader example, it would even *include* the micro-scale details.

In my experience, most people discuss “market to message match” in terms of the micro-scale, as described above: making sure your product offer is congruent with desires of the prospect; making sure you stay on subject in emails; etc.

However, the way I’m using the word “message” right now is in the more broad sense: the “feel” of your business… (the perception, context, vibes, look, words, everything)

Take Frank Kern for example. He’s NOT the top dog because he sold the right products at the right times… He’s who he is because of the *intentional cultivation* of a very specific, broad and long term “message” towards the internet marketing niche.

This “message” of Frank’s–that he is delivering to the internet marketing market–involves his image communicated through videos, his laid back vibe through emails, the timing of his offers as well as the offers themselves…

(And although cultivated it is all completely genuine as well, believe me.)

“Market to message match” — Frank’s “message” “matches” the internet marketing “market” … Dig?

Do this exercise…

Imagine you are at a coffee shop working on a new ebook or affiliate website of yours.

A mysterious stranger sits down next to you. This mysterious stranger’s presence is calming and comforting, like and old friend of yours. He smiles, and tells you an excellent way to improve the conversion of your site, how to make more sites faster and how they can be automated once set up.

…That mysterious stranger is YOU in whatever market you are targeting.

Your “message” is much more than the data points you share…

Your “message” also includes the friendliness and authority you are able to radiate, whether or not you are wearing a suit or a jeans and tshirt, the warmth with which you were able to approach the topic instead of just shouting “GO HERE, DO THIS!” .. the implicit and the explicit.

All of that can be controlled and done *on purpose*.. Your “message” can be controlled, in it’s entirety — the content, the packaging, the delivery. The FRAMING of it.

The FRAMING of your message. Putting your “message” into a frame .. like a picture frame. The intentional process of framing (controlling) how your prospects/customers/market view your message.

….

I hope I not only answered your question of “what is ‘message to market match’?” .. But I hope I was I able to successfully expand your understanding of what a “message” is in relation to a “market”?

Think broadly, think from a high level looking down.

How are you framing your business? How you do it is up to you — but only attained through practice, study, testing and refinement.

With marketing, you cannot hand people a frame to look through. You have to learn how to control framing through psychology.

…and in order to do that, you need to be able to step outside and away from your own product and business. You need to pretend, imagine and daydream how you are coming across to your market, as if you were sitting down next to them at a coffee shop — in the entirety of your message — for THAT is the frame in which your business is being viewed.

If you are not getting precisely the results you deserve, then you owe it to yourself to discover…

Answer: SEO & SEM

The initial area of internet marketing to begin with is search engine optimization and search engine marketing, which are 2 separate but related things. Search engine optimization is the technical side involving proper keyword research, website tweaking, backlink analysis, anchor text analysis and more… all for the result of appearing at the top of natural search listings in Google, Bing and Yahoo. Search Engine Marketing is all the other stuff like pay-per-click advertising, Google Places listings, content syndication and more. 80% of all your internet traffic will come from search engines, so that’s why you want to begin here.

Getting your business listed prominently in the Google Places maps listings for all of your market’s keywords is a top-priority. This is accomplished by logging into Google and providing all of the information they require, PLUS making sure they continually find a growing number of business citations throughout the internet.

Getting your business listed at the top of page 1 of Google’s natural search results for all of your market’s keywords should also be pursued at the same time. This is accomplished by first properly optimizing your website, then running an intelligent and ongoing backlink generation strategy.

The internet is now a common place for us all to shop, research and socialize. It’s part of our everyday lives, and your business needs to be there for people to find!

NOT being on the internet today is like not being in the Yellow pages in the 80′s and 90′s, but now consumers are fleeing from traditional media and doing their local business research through Google. The Kelsey Group has actually recently reported that over 90% of consumers now use the internet before the Yellow Pages to find local businesses.

Seriously, your business needs to be found online, but you probably have no idea how to go about it.

Well, here are your 3 choices:
1. Learn it yourself or hire an internet marketing professional on staff
2. Outsource it
3. Put it off until later

If you put it off like most businesses do, you’re missing out on hundreds (if not thousands) of potential new local Colorado Springs leads every single week, plus it’ll be even harder for you to enter the online market later as competition becomes more and more fierce.

You could easily start learning internet marketing yourself, but like so many other professions, it takes years of experience to be any good at it and lump on many hours per day of added work. BUT, you could also hire an internet marketing expert onto your staff and really take it in-house. Aside from the expense of an added employee, the question would then be, if you can’t do it yourself, how would you know if who you’ve hired is any good?

Your last option is to outsource the whole thing for a fraction of the cost to 3rd party companies with veteran internet marketers and established procedures.

Internet marketing is more than just backlinks, rankings and fancy websites. In fact, most of the time an expensive website redesign is completely unnecessary. Your existing business website is probably good enough and only needs a few tweaks here and there, and maybe a small bit of some good content added just to flesh it out a little bit.

Marketing on the internet is commonplace, it’s where 97% of consumers are looking for local businesses to buy from. It’s what we all use. You NEED to be found online, and you know it.

If you are not getting precisely the results you deserve, then you owe it to yourself to discover…

Online customer reviews are a major factor in your success with online marketing, so we really want to help you get this on right.

Why are online reviews so damn important?

• Customers who are searching online and browsing the listings of businesses on their local area are more inclined to click on/call/solicit the business with the most and/or best customer reviews

• Online reviews are an important ranking factor for a number of directories, including Google Places. When customers review a business well and give it a high rating, that listing is often displayed more often.

• Success breeds success. When you have lots of great reviews, customers are more inclined to pick you. When more customers pick you, you gain additional opportunities to collect more great reviews, leading to yet even greater chances of more and more customers due to your ever-increasing ratings and reviews.

What you want to do is take control of your online presence and actively grow your online reviews and ratings…

But how do you do that? Ethically solicit them from your customers.

Never say, “Hey, go here and give us a great review and we’ll give you a discount” or get your friends to give you fake reviews. That’s scuzzy and gives opportunity for your reputation to be tarnished forever. Instead, email your customers or hand them a slip of paper telling the how they could leave a positive review and rating if they felt their service warranted it.

There’s more to it than that, though, if you want to do it right… so I would like to give you a FREE manual called “How To Get More Online Customer Reviews: A Systematic Process For Local Businesses To Solicit Online Customer Reviews”

I recently had a great conversation with a newbie internet marketer about content spinning. For those of you who aren’t aware, “content spinning” is a process where software (in this case it was SpinChimp) takes a written article and automatically replaces various words wit their synonyms… The reason for this is to create “unique” content without needing to rewrite the article manually, or writing a brand new article.

I hate this method. It’s pure spam.

Here’s how our conversation went:

NEWBIE: “Hey people, i need some help. Does anyone use SpinChimp? I’m trying to figure out what are the best setting (for Global spin, favorite spin and Instant Unique) to set so that i can get the best readable quality from my articles. Any help from anyone?”

PALYN: “:/ I would like to encourage you to adjust your business model to not include spun articles. I can understand the attraction, in terms of ease.. but it is not a long-term (or even short term, IMO) compatible SEO or business model.

My main beef is that this practice often feeds the instant gratification many internet marketers seek, yet only leads to a long path of “chasing the dragon” and never really reaching their sought after goal. “One more piece of software… one more domain.. one more affiliate program..”

I would like to encourage all internet marketers to use non-fleeting building blocks when creating their empire.”

NEWBIE: “Thanks for you words of concern Palyn. Truth is that i eventually plan on outsourcing some of the work like article creation and submission. But as for right now as i start i’m kinda tight on cash so i was looking for more affordable option till i get to the point where i can possibly have my own team of people that i can outsource different parts of my business too.

So with that being said, then whats your outlook on software such as Senuke that supposedly automate everything for you?”

PALYN: “For the websites that allow completely automated submissions .. are those the sites you really want to send time getting links from?

Google knows about them, and they are the exact types of sites that are being discounted heavily ..especially with the Panda update. Much of Panda is an *offline* process that Google runs on their index. So those (honestly) spammy sites will definately give you a boost for a very short while, but will go away soon after that. Possibly damaging the Trust of your domain name forever, forcing you to rebuy/rebuild.

These 100% automated programs only post to certain types of sites that allow it and are designed for it. Talk about a footprint, eh?

Even scripts that spam blog comments onto people’s standard wordpress sites aren’t all that great anymore. Most blogs require comments to be approved anyway (because of spammers). I don’t say that lightly.. years and years ago, one of the *very first* blog comment spam scripts on the market was my very own design, but I distanced myself from it because I felt like an asshole using it.

I only do white hat stuff. All my clients are small businesses, anyway, so I have to go that route no matter what, and I control the resources to pump out freshly written articles/blog posts/videos for them each week – but not many people can just jump right in to doing stuff like that.

Here are a couple tips… (again, having no idea what your real-world business mode is)

1. Instead of doing 50 affiliate programs and going to wide with your efforts, pick the top 3 and go very very deep. If you go wide and spread your efforts thinly, you’ll just get lost in the noise. But if you spend time building a solid foothold in just a few markets, you’ll have a better chance of seeing a return. Create an imaginary persona for yourself for each market – a persona who’s LIFE is this market and spreading the message. Create their website, product website, blog, article profiles, web 2.0 profiles, etc, and spend the time to bolster those.

2. Reuse content, don’t spin it. It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality. Take that article and manually post it to ezinearticles.com.. after that manually create a lens at squidoo.com… after that manually create a hubpage.. after that, post it on your “market blog” for that niche. Yep, it takes more work upfront to do this stuff, but the work you do builds on top of itself instead of disappearing just as fast as you put it in place.

If you do spend time working to a domain, don’t get lazy and start up with the automated stuff again.. it’ll tarnish your domain’s reputation with the search engines.

I hope that helps.”

NEWBIE: “Thanks Palyn, your reply is a encouraging because it lets me know that i’m somewhat on the right track then because you have pointed out some things that i’m also doing (e.g. focusing on a few products rather then a ton of them). Sounds like you have been doing this for a long time. About point 2, won’t Google see that as duplicate content?”

PALYN: “A while, yeah.

Duplicate content has always been a dramatic topic. Generally, the FIRST place google finds the content gets the most credit for it. Which is specifically why you first want to use a high trust website like ezinearticles.com and include a link to your main website. Do that with your original article before you spin it. Let google discover it on their own. Very very important.

After that, you are free to put the content in other high trust places like hubpages and squidoo. Surround the content with *other* content like videos from youtube, and rss feed, images, a unique paragraph or two that you type… You’ll be fine.

Google is much less concerned with duplicate content between different websites than it is with duplicate content on the SAME site.

Let google discover your content and links to your website at these other high trust places.. give it a week or so…

After that you are pretty much free to spin the content and build all the links you want, even if it’s spammy links. build links to your main website AND all your content URLs at these high trust websites.

It DOES matter how google discovers your website, and in what order it finds links to it. If Google finds your website through low trust websites first, your domain is shit out of luck. However if google discovers your website through high trust websites first, then you are golden. Establish trust, THEN build links.

Also, don’t forget to create a video at animoto.com and upload it to youtube.com .. letting google find that video there first (with a link to your website in the description, of course) … then upload the vid to all the other vid sites to create backlinks.

Don’t rush this process. You must let Google discover things on it’s own and in the right order.

p.s. I still want to encourage you to not spin at all though… I gave you a loophole that allows for it because I want to help you along your path, but you’ll be better off without it (and you could still get caught one of these days).

Think long term, add value to people’s lives and move forward with wisdom.”

NEWBIE: “Thanks bro, that really helps me out a lot. And about building/discovering links gradually, i learnt that the hard way
Thanks for the tip about getting back-links from trusted sites first, never thought about it but it makes a lot of sense.”

PALYN: “Anytime. You know where to find me.”

Seriously, don’t laugh! I’m not joking! With what other service can you use another company’s products, their warehouse, their shipping department, and have them provide you with all the information you need? Do you see what I mean now?

Every entrepreneur who is looking for the most efficient way to sell products over the internet should be very enthusiastic about drop shipping. It finally allows you to sell nearly anything you want, be it computer equipment, toasters, billiard tables, even planter pots, all without having any inventory. And do you know what no inventory means? It means no risk! The only time you ever buy any products from the wholesaler is when you have already sold it to a customer! And the best thing is (or should I say, another best thing), the wholesaler packages it up and ships it out to the customer for you, and usually your business name is on the box! As far as the customer knows, you have a warehouse full of products.

When you sign up with a wholesaler, they will most likely ask you for your tax license number, or a faxed/emailed copy of it to prove you are a legitimate business. If they don’t ask you for this, they are either a very small wholesale company with a specific niche of products and just want to make the process easy for their clients, or they are not a real wholesaler at all.

If you ever come across a “wholesale” company that carries tons of items, ranging from Barbie’s to hair dryers, and they say that you don’t need to have a tax license to deal with them, then be very skeptical, because 99 to 1, they aren’t a wholesale company at all.

That sort of company will just take your order only to turn around and order it from the real wholesale company at a much lower cost than you paid for it (and they did have to get a tax license to do this). It doesn’t stop there either. Since you bought it at a higher price, you will need to pass this on to your customers by marking it up higher than you need to. And if you ever needed or wanted to, you would have less margin when lowering your prices to match or beat your competitors. And your competitors would probably have a tax license, so they would be dealing with legitimate wholesalers.

Seriously, be very careful about this, there are many wolves in sheep’s clothing out there. So skip the middleman, get your tax license, get legitimate and you will save yourself a lot of grief and money.

Once you make an account with a wholesaler, some will mail you a wholesale catalog and price list in the mail with a CD full of product images to use on your website. The smaller companies will just allow you to copy the pictures and descriptions off their website. With this product information, you can post the products to your online store and wait for orders. It’s as simple as that!

Then, when a customer places an order, you either call, email or fax your contact at the wholesaler and give them the customers name, address, and the items they want, including any other miscellaneous information the wholesaler may want. The wholesaler then charges you for the cost and shipping of the order at wholesale price, then packages it up and sends it off to the customer. All you have left to do is turn back around and charge the customers credit card for the items with your profit margin markup.

The reason this is growing in popularity amongst wholesalers is because they get to have many other companies market and sell their products, thus reaching more people and selling greater volumes. The wholesale company is still able to sell their products for the price they want, and you get to keep the profit margin as a reseller. It’s a win/win situation.

Drop shipping is enabling the average person to be able to run a successful, full service online retail store from the comfort of their home. No inventory, no shipping department, only buy when you have already sold — this is the perfect affiliate program.

If you are not getting precisely the results you deserve, then you owe it to yourself to discover…

I was just thinking about something I’d like to share with you, and hopefully it’ll give you something to think about as well. I was remembering when I took a motorcycle riding safety class when I was 23 years old. I had no previous riding experience, aside from a bit of mountain biking with a 21-speed, and I figured it wouldn’t be too much different going from that to a motorcycle. Yes, it gives me slight grin now, too.

Boy was it was crazy, I couldn’t have been more wrong! I imagined myself just climbing on and riding off into the sunset like a pro. But when the time came and I actually sat on the bike for the first time and rode a few hundred feet, it was quite an eye-opener, to say the least. I felt like I was 15 years old again, with a driving permit in my wallet and my mom in the passenger seat. Those familiar emotions were running through me again — apprehension, confusion, excitement and fear — only this time I had more life-experience under my belt to better manage them all.

Sure, having driven a manual transmission car for many years did help control the motorcycle, but it was still pretty foreign. But with time, practice, and making plenty of mistakes, I got pretty good at it. Eventually, it became second nature. And even now, after all the experience I’ve gained, I’m planning on taking an advanced riders safety course.

This reminds me of internet marketing. Maybe you are just starting your first online business, or maybe you are on to your second or third and are now marketing those. Where ever you are at, the amount of business experience you have will vary from most everyone else; but here’s a fact no matter how long you’ve been doing it: if you don’t practice internet marketing, it will never get any easier.

Internet marketing is just like learning to ride a motorcycle or drive a car. Before actually getting into the thick of it, people may tell you “Oh, it’s so easy!” or “All you have to know is this, that’s it.” Even when you think about the steps and procedures beforehand, you can convince yourself that you have it all planned out and it’ll go off without a hitch. But once you actually do it, you get that much needed reality check.

Internet marketing isn’t something you can just “do” and get right the first time around. Yes, it is important to take advice from professionals you trust and who are where you want to be, and to read their eBooks and what not. But it is much more important to actually get out there and do it yourself. Guru’s can point they way, but they can’t give you experience. To be successful at internet marketing, it takes focus, concentration, and especially practice.

Just like using a clutch, you will mess up your marketing. You may gun it, and offer your customers a product that would’ve sold better had you waited. You might pick a product you are not really qualified to market. Whatever it is, be it headlines, sales copy, product placement — you will get it wrong some of the time. But the more you practice marketing, the more you read about people who are doing it correctly and effectively, the more you write and rewrite, the better you will get.

Eventually, you will develop a “sixth-sense” of what is good or bad — marketing will become second nature to you.

Most people are looking for the easy way out. That’s why ”get-rich quick” schemes are selling so well (and ruining it for us legitimate netizens, damn it!). But those people never reach their ultimate goals, because there is no legitimate, fool-proof quick way — especially one where you can keep your conscience clean!

All those who are determined to succeed, who try and try again and do not stop despite all the obstacles in their path — those are the ones that will succeed, guaranteed. You can do anything you want in life; no one can stop you but you, and this does include financial independence.

Ask yourself what you really want out of life. Would you rather catch the new episode of ‘Friends,’ or spend time strengthening your sales copy? It’s easy to get distracted, but stick to your guns and re-do it for the tenth time. Just remember, for every time you get something wrong, you are that much closer to getting it right.

If you are not getting precisely the results you deserve, then you owe it to yourself to discover…
